Spring into action

UK, it’s time to rejoice—spring is here! Well, technically anyway. According to the Met Office spring officially started on March 1st, and we have it on good authority that the temperatures will soon rise accordingly (we hope) so we can start shedding off those winter layers and welcome in some sunshine. That means it’s time to spring into action with a few new seasonal wardrobe treats. What better excuse could there be for a bit of a shopping trip?

Spring calls for thinner materials, lighter colours and a more delicate look as a whole, keeping things fresh and bright to wake up your wardrobe. There are several key trends you can look forward to this season as well—frills, for example, are a great place to start. They were cropping up all over the place on the SS13 catwalks and will add a distinctly feminine edge to your look, being a fantastic way to soften tailoring and add something extra to the minimalist style. Metallics are another key trend and you can go as subtle or high-octane as you please, and what about the ever-popular florals? A spring time must-have, a few flowers will add an instant pop to your look.

Or, if you’re not quite ready to leave behind your muted colours, here’s something you might not have expected—black is touted as being THE neutral for the summer. Unusual, yes, but perfect for our unpredictable climate, black can be the ideal blank canvas and can even be given a delicate twist by opting for lace detailing (for example) without having to go for full-on goth. The monochrome look is another fantastic alternative, and stripes in general are big this season—keep it sleek and structured and you can’t go wrong.

Of course, we can’t forget the coats either. You might not be ready to say goodbye to your winter coat just yet but getting a few alternatives on board will ensure you’re totally prepared, so consider things like the biker jacket, the mac or the varsity, or if you can’t bear the thought of your duffle being relegated to the wardrobe (we feel your pain) you could always opt for the short duffle to see you through.

Giving your wardrobe a quick revamp could be just the thing to welcome in the new season, so start seeing what you can uncover and you’ll be ready to spring into action in no time.
