Game on

Anyone for tennis? Wimbledon is in full swing, and as ever, it’s as much about the fashion as anything else. There might be a strict all-white policy at the All England Club but that doesn’t mean the players can’t experiment, and they’ve managed to do just that with some worthy Instagram moments being spotted on the courts.

Perhaps the most notable trend to emerge so far is speggings, the newest addition to the jeggings family. These sports leggings have been seen on Victoria Azarenka and Jelena Jankovic and are a Wimbledon (and fashion) first, with both ladies incorporating them into a layered look with the likes of drop-waist miniskirts and long-sleeved tops. It’s certainly a lot of white…

The all-white rules haven’t been adhered to completely, however, with a lot of players choosing to add a pop of colour to spice things up a bit. Azarenka went for bright pink shoelaces, Bethanie Mattek-Sands chose tennis ball-green hair colour and both Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams wore bright orange shorts under their mini dresses, and Federer caused a stir with his orange-soled trainers – shoes which were quickly banned.

Tennis blazers are back under the spotlight again whilst the white polo shirt reigns supreme, and the ladies aren’t short of a few beauty looks either. Nail art has hit the courts with lightning bolts, leopard print and 3D crystals all being spotted, but if there’s one breakout fashion star it seems to be Brit Laura Robson. Not only has she been getting flashbulbs popping during practice sessions but her designer kit on the court has got everyone lusting after the same immaculate look, just showing that tennis whites can still have a fashionable edge.

If you’ve got tennis fever too, why not join the players in a bit of all-white action? You don’t have to go for the sports look (although sports luxe is well and truly here) but you can still channel your inner tennis player with the likes of white trousers, dresses, shorts, blazers or feminine shirts, and you could ramp the look up with a few white accessories too. Keep it crisp, clean and simple and you’ll be match ready in no time, and then all you’ll have to do is bring out the strawberries and cream for the ultimate Wimbledon celebration!
