BEAST FROM THE EAST

Grab your lovely warm duffles and brace yourselves. Just as we’re beginning to think that spring is nearly here, Mother Nature has other ideas; this weekend sees the start of an HISTORIC FREEZE. Dubbed the “Beast from the East” weather reporters are predicting bone-chilling Siberian winds to sweep the country along with ice and possibly a good dumping of snow as the eastern system hits.

Weather maps show a colossal swathe of sub-zero air engulfing Scotland, England and Wales by the middle of next week. It has sparked warnings to prepare for extreme cold weather that is likely hold out through the start of spring. (So don’t put your woolly jumpers away just yet!)

Temperatures will begin to drop from today as sub-zero Siberian winds edge into southern and eastern Britain. The whole country will be swathed in a freezing air mass by the end of the week with a bitter wind chill making it feel close to a (Brrrr) -10C (14F). Daytime temperatures may struggle to get much above freezing throughout the weekend and if the weather systems hold, we may be feeling the chill well into the start of March.

It’s the first event of its kind for five years and threatens to bring the most severe late-winter cold snap since 2013. While initial threats are from Siberian finger numbing raw cold, weather experts warn heavy snowfall is a real possibility from next week. Looks like we should brace ourselves for disruption on roads and transport networks.

Well, it seems like winters not done with us just yet and there’s no point fighting it. Best make the most of it. Wrap up warm and get outside and enjoy the beautiful frosty mornings, snowmen, sledging and a chance to warm your toes in front of the fire for just a little longer.
