New season in the spotlight

The start of a new season can only mean one thing – it’s time to put Australian fashion back under the spotlight and see what new trends we can look forward to, and with runways being awash with summer 2013 styles it’s a great time to take a closer look and see what should be in our wardrobes over the next few months…

First up, let’s take a look at the biggest trend of the season – monochrome. Australian fashion might traditionally be all about colour but this year it’s got a distinctly muted feel about it, with black and white colour palettes dominating a lot of designers’ collections. But that needn’t detract from the summery feel – bold, digital prints, pops of colour, oversized checks and even stripes all stood out against the sea of black and white, whilst lace, body con dresses and cut-put pieces are set to be big news too.

A lot of collections have had a bit of a sixties vibe to them as well, albeit with a more dressed up edge. Think A-line mini dresses, capri pants and mid-length skirts, and high-fashion pea coats even made an appearance. And you can forget the LBD – this year it’s all about the little white dress whilst the sheer white shirt is another summer must-have, both of which are perfectly fitting for the overriding monochrome theme.

Of course, we are in Australia, and that means swimwear is a core part of any fashion show. This season’s runways have been no exception – from sculpted pieces to the boho look and bright and sexy to seventies florals, you’re certainly not short of options. So what are you waiting for? The start of summer is the perfect opportunity for a splurge, and with new season collections about to drop you could get your wardrobe sorted well in time for the months ahead.
