Love The Wimbledon Blues

It’s that time of year again—Wimbledon season is nearly upon us. And if you’re heading off to Centre Court, Murray Mound or even if you’re watching from the comfort of your own home it’s time to get your fashion choices sorted, leaving you ready to watch those must-see matches in style.

But there’s been lots of change in recent times as the fashion courts traditional whites take back stage to the new exciting brights smashing their way through. As the season really gets warmed up with the French Open this month we can get a sneaky peek of what we might expect at Wimbledon. It looks like Nike’s designers have focused on finding a perfect colour that would allow players to show up in a striking way against the Roland Garros courts. When they narrowed down their palette to this bold blue shade, they flooded the summer collection with it and made up for the lack of colour contrast by indulging in textures that bring a three-dimensional effect.

Grand Slams always offer a plethora of outstanding, on-trend performance clothes, but this time competition is exceptionally fierce! Nike’s designers must be delighted with Simona Haleps heart warming victory at the Open to champion their new look.

Venus Williams’ busy print incorporating a pop of tango red, coupled with white, black and frost gray, at the same time matched nicely and although not for long, contrasted with Paris’ red clay.

The seven-time Grand Slam champion’s EleVen Sprint Incline Dress, accessorized with the collection’s visor, made the American one of the best-dressed players at the tournament. Just like the rest of Nike’s French Open collection, Maria Sharapova’s airy Nike Summer Maria Dress is was a solid blue design – the official name of the colour is blue force and we loved it. The cleaver knit jersey fabric with spandex offers freedom of movement in a skin-tight fit, perfectly balanced with scalloped hem and spaghetti straps that gave the dress a delicate, feminine feel.

So if you’re out to rock the Wimbledon trend, you should be aiming to keep it cool and smart/casual but with a distinctly British vibe. Men can’t go wrong with the preppy look—think neutral trousers, a white shirt and a casual jumper/cardigan or lightweight coat to throw over your shoulders, and you could top it all off with a traditional yet stylish straw hat or maybe a true blue baseball cap to give you that little bit of summer edge.

Women should opt for a classic, elegant look, with a light mid-length simple wrap dress or cool white jeans and a Perry polo and light blazer and may be just a few accessories being the order of the day. It’s all about flying the flag of classic British style, so keep it quintessentially British and you really can’t go wrong.

Think elegant and simple and even if our England hopefuls don’t get a shot at the tournament it doesn’t mean the rest of us can’t fly the flag for Britain. Get the Strawberries and cream at the ready and your Pimm’s chilling—it’s time for Wimbledon!
