Ladies Day at Ascot, dress to impress
“Ladies of the main grandstand are encouraged to dress in a manner that befits a formal occasion”. It’s so very #britishandweloveit.
ROYAL Ascot’s famously inflexible dress code will have even the most experienced fashionistas’ quaking in their sling backs. Next week 20th -24th June marks the start of Ascot week. The Internet is littered with images of past race seasons where the great and the beautiful are applauded for their wonderful hats and glittering designer numbers. Sadly, its not just the winners that take first place, there’s always an annual parade ring in the press of ladies whom may have got things a little bit wrong and they seem to catch just as much of the limelight.
This year is different, #royalascot has decided to loosen its fashion grip a little: for the first time jumpsuits are permitted in the Royal Enclosure. This is no small matter. The last time Ascot bent the rules, was to empower the seventies fabulous trouser suits. There are other fashion flash points to look out for: skirt hems need be just above the knee or longer; straps should be one inch wide or more; and head pieces must have a solid base of four inches or more (no hair bands or fascinators). Our advice? Make this summer’s Ascot’s number a go-anywhere dress and accessorise with a vintage-hued hat and a fab pair of shoes.
